December 2009

The end of another year, how time flies!  Many members, helpers and our Macmillan nurses attended our Christmas lunch at the Dolphin inSt Ives . We all had a great time.

All the wonderful volunteers received our grateful thanks, and a gift of flowers.  “Thank you” so much to them all for their hard work throughout the year.

We had a wonderful raffle which raised a grand total of £125. Thank you to everyone. We could not continue without the generous support from such kind people.

This looks good - - enjoy

In the coming year 2010 we are hoping to help even more families and  will prepare a varied, and we hope, interesting diary of events which will include the ever popular boat trips with the St John crew aboard the Ladybird. So check out the diary!

June 2009

Wow how hot is it at the moment!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our day out on the River Gt Ouse sailing at 10am from the Hartford Marina up to St Ives . We moored at the Dolphin Hotel to take some lunch and then sailed back to Hartford arriving at 3.30pm. It was wonderful day, tranquil and fun with all the patients and carers from the two groups based at Ramsey and Huntingdon.

15 May 2009 (for clients and carers)

Clients and carers are entitled to attend the Annual General Meeting (AGM) which this year is being held on 18th June.  The AGM is an opportunity for you, should you wish, to tell The Committee if we are meeting your needs, and to offer  suggestions for future activities that we might consider as part of our plans.  You would also have the opportunity to propose and vote in the election of The Committee members for the current year.

The meeting is in two parts:

  • A Business Session at 7.30 pm
  • The AGM commencing at 8.15pm. We would hope to finish about 9.30pm.

You are welcome to attend the business session if you wish though,  if you are pressed for time, the AGM would be more important.

Our meetings are normally held in St.Ives Clinic. However, the room there is limited in size and facilities, so it is vital that we have a positive check on numbers  just in case we have to switch the venue.  For these reasons I have to ask you to positively confirm your intention to attend by e-mailing me gordon.dyer@btinternet.com by 5th June. Unless I hear by this date I shall assume that you are not able to attend.  Your telephone number is requested so that, if necessary, I can contact you about the venue.

I would be grateful if you would also indicate  if you are attending both or only one session of the meeting.  Given the timing allowances it would be appreciated if you make sure that you arrive on time for the start of the session(s) you wish to participate in.

Best wishes,

Gordon Dyer

Secretary, to Acorn Group

Hello Everyone,

How great to see the sunshine at last, it must be the reason that we have seen an increase in our members attending the

groups. I am so glad to be able to welcome new members. The Easter raffles went well and we managed to increase our

funds which will enable us to enjoy more days out. Everyone is looking forward to the boat trip that is coming up in May.Here are some snaps of us enjoying our meeting.

An Introductory Message from the Centre Coordinator Barbara Cobb

Welcome to our website.

Acorn groups were set up for “you”.  If you are reading this then you or someone you care for are suffering from a long

term illness. We are here to support you and your loved ones.

We run two 2-hour meetings each month,   one in Ramsey and one in Huntingdon (we hope to open in St Ives later in

the year, so watch this space).

If you would like any other information about the venues or times do not hesitate to call either me, Barbara or Geoffrey

on 01487 710132 we will be pleased to assist you in any way we can.

At the meetings we have your local community Macmillan nurse, along with fully trained therapists who offer their

services for free.

All our volunteers are vetted and trained in listening skills and are CRB checked.  Under meetings and events you will

see that we also have a fully qualified Tai-Chi instructor who comes once a month.

So, come and join us, have lots of fun, talk with likeminded people, relax, enjoy the company. Geoff runs a cool corner

for men. and maybe you could enjoy a game of cards or dominos.

Listen to our speakers on such topics as benefits and nutrition.

Join us on a boat trip on the River Great Ouse or afternoon tea at the garden centre.   (We try to offer all our facilities

and outings free)

What are you waiting for – we would like to meet you, if you have trouble getting to us then call either Barbara or

Geoff and we can arrange to pick you up.

So see you soon

Barbara

This is a hug.       It’s here when you need it
